Greetings, Students, Parents, and Centre Staff:
Thank you for your continued support of our students, our staff, and our school community during this fall semester. We hope this message finds you doing well, and we wanted to take a moment to reiterate our collective “Thank You!” for everything you have done, are doing, and will continue to do to help our students and our school.
Before we begin the upcoming Holiday Break, we wanted to take a moment to share the following information and reminders:
● Colder weather, more time inside, and the onset of cold and flu season are upon us. The CDC has provided this guidance for winter holidays, which include continuing to practice social distancing (at least 6 feet), frequent handwashing, avoiding large gatherings, and wearing a mask.
● If you or your family members do not feel well at any time over the break, we have included this graphic that shares which symptoms are most commonly associated with the cold, the flu, and COVID-19.
● If anyone you know is interested in serving as a substitute teacher in our school during the spring semester, please review and/or share the information provided in this link to review the qualifying criteria provided by the Kansas State Department of Education. If you have any questions, please let me know.
We will miss seeing and working with our students during this upcoming break. Stay warm, stay safe, and please know how much we appreciate everything that you are doing to focus on the health and success of our students, staff members, and community!
Sincerely,
Susan Beeson

Centre's Junior High and High School students orr parents who are not currently in quarantine, can come up to the school at any time today to pick up supplies, homework, books, and instruments for the next couple weeks. Teachers and staff have worked hard this morning to gather up everything that we think that your student will need in the next couple weeks of remote learning. Please either call when you drive up to the school or ring the doorbell, and we will be glad to bring the supplies to you. Students who are not currently in quarantine will be allowed to come into the building and clean out their gym lockers if they have one.

If your student at Centre is learning remotely, they are still eligible for free breakfast and lunch. They will sign up remotely with their first hour class as they remote in for the day. We are unable to deliver meals at this time, as our school waiver does not provide for that service. Meals can be picked up curbside at 11:45 each morning. We ask that if you do sign up, please make sure to pick up the meals so that food does not go to waste.

Athletic practices and games are cancelled until students return to school.

November 12, 2020 – This message pertains to students in Grades 6-12
Centre Parents and Students:
A special Centre Board meeting was held this evening concerning the increase in Covid-19 symptoms experienced among our students. In our effort to provide safety to all and gain time to mitigate the spread of virus, the Centre Board of Education voted to move JH/HS classes to a remote learning delivery model, beginning on Monday, November 16th thru November 30th, 2020. Tomorrow, Friday, November 13th, will be a non-school day for 6th -12th grade.
Mrs. Terri Bina will contact students to get a list of items, books, supplies, and resources needed for learning. At that time, Mrs. Bina will also provide a time for parents/students to pick-up the items at curbside in front of the school.
The board will reconvene on Monday, November 30th, to re-assess the level of risk for students.
Elementary classes, grades PreK-5, will continue face to face instruction at Centre School.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and wish you good health.
Please contact Mr. Siebert, High School Principal, at tsiebert@usd397.com or at 785-983-4321 and or Mrs. Beeson at sbeeson@usd397.com or at 785-983-4321.
Thank you and have a good evening!
Mrs. Beeson & Mr. Siebert

There will be a special board meeting tonight, November 12th, 2020, at 5 pm.

In an effort to keep everyone safe, Centre Jr./Sr. High School has decided to limit fans to only two fans per player and coach this basketball season. Tickets will also be handed out to students. In order to attend the game, you must have a ticket. Please see the below revisions for indoor fan attendance.
Due to fans being limited, games in the Main Gym will be streamed on NFHS Network.
Here is the website: https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/centre-high-school-lost-springs-ks.
Subscriptions cost $10.99 per month in order to stream any Cougar event that takes place in the Main Gym. You can also choose a yearly subscription for $64.99. Game schedules may look a little different from previous years to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. For instance, the JH boys will be playing in the Main Gym on November 16, and the girls will use the Main Gym on November 23. The schedule may also change due to a lack of officials because of the pandemic. Make sure to check back for more information on the school website and Facebook page.

School picture retakes at Centre are on Friday, November 13th. We will begin at 8:30 in the morning. If you need a picture packet for your student, please call the school office at 785-983-4321 or have your student stop by tomorrow and pick one up.

The Josten's representative will be at Centre on Thursday, November 12th to take orders for Sophomore Class rings and Senior graduation products. This time to order will take place at 12:30 PM. Please make sure that your students have their order form and payment with them. This will be the only time where class rings and senior products can be ordered at school with the representative here to help you. Order forms were sent home with students last week.

If you have a student who is in quarantine and will be remoting in for the next two weeks, we are gathering up their books and supplies so that they can have it to remote from home. Their items will be available to be picked up between 2:00 and 4:00 today. Please call and let us know that you are outside the door and we will bring the items to you.

Centre Parents and Students:
Today, we have learned 2 Centre High School students received confirmed positive Covid-19 results. Due to this information, 25 students are identified as direct contacts and will move to remote learning for 14 days. Parents of those students will be contacted today.
If you are someone who did not receive a contact today from an administrator or office personnel, your student is allowed to return to Centre School for face to face classes tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Buses will run the regular routes.
Our Food Service Program is now an option for remote learning students, and meals can be available as early as tomorrow. The process used to order lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following morning: the regular homeroom teacher will take lunch count during the first-hour class, and lunch will be available for pick up curbside outside the school's front door at 11:45 AM the same day.
TRANSPORTATION will be needed as we have a waiver for on-site pick-up, only at this time.
Thanks to all for your patience with our precautionary efforts to provide safety to all! Your flexibility and cooperation are vital to our navigation through this time of unknowns.
Thank you.
Susan Beeson

Due to a parental report of a confirmed positive case of Covid-19, of a High School student who went home ill on Friday, we are canceling face to face classes and expecting students to remote into classes throughout the day on Monday.
We will seek guidance from Diedre Serene, RN at the Marion County Health Dept., tomorrow to guide our planning for the remaining days of the week. Last week, Diedre advised me, "a direct contact is anyone who is in contact with a positive individual, 2 days prior to the day of the positive result". Meaning - Count forward 2 days prior to the day of the positive result to determine who may be a direct contact requiring quarantine.
As we gain additional information, I will keep you informed as to how we will progress.

Good evening Centre students and parents. I am contacting you to inform you that junior high and high school face-to-face classes are canceled tomorrow, Monday, November 9th, 2020.
Students are expected to remote into each class throughout the day.
We will be in contact about classes for the rest of the week.
Pre-K through 5 classes will continue as usual.

The Fall Athletic Banquet will be done in a visual format therefore there will be no banquet at the school! More information to come soon!

Please respond to the survey about your access to Internet at home.

Centre Athletic
To our Centre Cougar Sports Family,
Throughout this pandemic, it has been unpredictable in both our school and community. This summer has looked extremely different from what other summers have previously looked like. One thing has remained constant keeping students and staff safe.
The recent delay has caused people to possibly wonder why we delayed practices and weights. This was due to waiting to see what the Governor and State Board of Education would say about restarting school along with activities. In conjunction with cases rising in Marion County the idea was to keep all stakeholders safe. On Wednesday, July 22 KSHSAA came out with various guidelines on how to conduct a sports season with the pandemic. All of these considerations will be difficult to institute throughout the fall sports season. KSHSAA will be surveying superintendents to see when start dates of school will be so they can possibly adjust their schedule accordingly. Our administrative team will also be meeting to help determine what is best for students and staff in regards to protocols for athletics. The status of the fall sports season seems to change each day.
As of now, the fall sports season will be occurring but it will look extremely different than in years past. For now, practices and weights will be reopening on Monday July 27 to help prepare student athletes for the upcoming fall season. Football and volleyball camps for middle and high school will also be occuring on August 3-7 in the evenings. All rules and regulations will be followed and enforced. Practices are still scheduled to begin on August 17th. As your students return to athletics please know the risk that exists for the student in contracting the virus whether at a game or practice. Please also make sure to get your physical, consent to treat, and concussion forms in by August 17th if planning to participate. Please email if you have any questions!
Thank You for your understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.
Mr. Timothy Vinduska, Athletic Director

The Centre Board of Education and Superintendent, Mrs. Beeson recognize the amazing efforts of school leaders, educators, health professionals, transportation directors, food service personnel and many other experts spread across Kansas who gave their time, expertise, and effort to create the Navigating Change Guide for reopening Kansas schools. We look forward to the full mitigation of COVID-19 when we can bring Kansas kids back to Kansas schools.

Due to the Governor's Announcement, workouts and weights will be postponed until further notice including this evening. We will be waiting to hear what the Governor and KSHSAA has to say before proceeding forward with weights and practices. At the press conference Governor Kelly stated that practices will be delayed. Thank you for your understanding.

Subject: Reminder About Physicals
This letter is to remind everyone about the physicals happening at St. Luke Health Clinic this Friday, July 17th from 9:00 AM-11:30 AM. As the pandemic in Kansas has worsened we have been in contact with St. Luke and they have instituted the following guidelines.
Masks MUST be worn while in the clinic. Students will need to bring their own masks. If you need a mask please email Mr. Vinduska and we will try to get you a mask before the physical.
Please do not come to the clinic if you are feeling sick. It is important that we keep everyone at the clinic safe. Stay home and reschedule the physical at a later date if you are sick.
Here are a few reminders about the physical:
The cost is $15.00 and checks can be made out to Centre High School.
Transportation to and from the clinic will not be provided by the school. You will need to provide your own transportation for your child.
Please make sure that all parent signatures are filled out BEFORE coming into the clinic. Once the physicals are done they will be given to the school.
